Christmas is a quiet family holiday down in Frnakfurt. You won’t find many parties or festival time at all really but if you do head down in time for the Christmas markets you’ll be in for a treat. The busiest places after these markets end on the 23rd will the be the churches most likely and finding a place for dinner on Christmas eve will be pretty tough unless you choose a hotel that serves dinner.
The shops will reopen around noon or early afternoon on Christmas eve! From the 27th onwards the shops will be filled with madness! everyone exchanging unwanted gifts or spending that Christmas money. So the best time to go to Frankfurt is the week leading up to Christmas.
The lighting, the decorations, the atmosphere all make Frankfurt amazing at Christmas and its known world wide that the Frankfurt Market is a great attraction. The Frankfurt Christmas market attracts thousands of people every year who want to enjoy the things this beautiful german city has to offer.
The Paulsplatz is decorated in a Christmas style, theres a huge Christmas tree by put out too.
The Christmas Market in Frankfurt has a strong tradition. It goes all the way back to 1393 when it was first referenced in official documents. In 1498 the market was the marriage zone for Wilhelm of Hesse and the daughter of Prince of Palatinate and this event was glorified with a massive entourage of horses. The enthusiasm of this market has carried on all the way till today.
